The Plot:
The film starts out with a scene of a man driving down a deserted country road. An unseen entity appears in the road and the truck crashes. The next day, we learn that River View High School student Carol’s father didn’t come home last night. Apparently, her dad was going into the big city to look for a gift for Carol’s upcoming birthday. Carol and her boyfriend, Mike, go out looking for Carol’s dad, and find a wrecked truck along one of the roads outside of town. The two decide to investigate a nearby cave after they find the father’s hat outside.
Inside the cave, the two stumble upon what appears to be a giant net of some sort, but it is hardly something so harmless as this. It is actually the web of a huge spider who has taken up a home in the cave, and apparently is eating unlucky humans who venture into its lair, judging from the skeletons that are found in the cave. Carol and Mike go back to town to tell their story to police, who actually believe them enough to go out to the cave to investigate, bringing a whole lot of DDT, a pesticide that they believe will kill the spider. The creature is hosed down with the poison, and it rolls over, apparently dead. But is that the end of the giant spider?
Well, after the “dead” spider has been transported to the school awaiting transfer to a laboratory for analysis, when the spider is revived by rock and roll music and it goes on a rampage through the downtown area. All the while, local officials try to come up with some way to get rid of the beast once and for all.
The giant spider, after spreading a little death and destruction, and threatening the wife of the local since teacher at the high school, is eventually eliminated by electrocution after trappingh the teenage couple in the cave.
